Dr. Daniel Bercu
Founder & President
Dr. Bercu is President & Founder of Doctors At War. He and his wife Colette have been working to fight human trafficking since forming Free for Life International 3 years ago. Free for Life raises funds for safe houses around the world that rescue and restore victims of human trafficking.
Dr. Bercu practices medicine in middle Tennessee, specializing in emergency medicine. He realized after getting involved in the area of human trafficking in 2006 that there were only a handful of doctors involved in this battle. Doctors At War was formed to put out a call-to-action for doctors of all disciplines to get involved in the war against trafficking, and to provide doctors with projects and programs that they can get involved with in order to make a difference in the lives of survivors of human trafficking around the world.
His vision for Doctors At War is multi-faceted. He is hoping to help educate doctors around the world to recognize these victims in their practice, connect medical mission trips with safe houses for survivors of human trafficking to provide free medical care, sponsor mission trips to do this same work, develop a global database of shelters and medical mission trips, be a clearing house for medical equipment and supplies that can be shared around the world, connect specialists such as plastic surgeons and infectious disease doctors with patients that cannot otherwise get medical care, develop medical school chapters to pass on this mantle to the next generation, and in general develop an ‘army’ of doctors who will use their talents and resources to truly make a difference on what he believes to be the greatest human atrocity of the modern age.
